At 7415 Grandview Avenue, the morning crowd and the evening crowd have shared the same room for 11 years. The Bluegrass Coffee & Bourbon Lounge serves coffee from beans it roasts in house, along with pastries and breakfast. At night it becomes a lounge with live music, whiskey and Southern-inspired plates. That run ends on Saturday, October 31.
Farther along the street, at 7509 Grandview, Silver Vines Winery has scheduled its own ending. It has been open since December 2011 and plans to close at the end of 2026.
Olde Town's next gathering places are opening somewhere else. The newest one is in a 1924 house on Upham Street. A florist has moved onto Olde Wadsworth, and Arvada Urban Renewal Authority money is going into the alley and the cross streets. The center of the evening scene is starting to shift a block off Grandview.
Two rooms that did the work of a dozen
Both closing businesses did more than their category suggests. WhatNow's report on the Bluegrass closure lists a year of recurring events on top of the daily coffee and nightly lounge. They include a Crawfish Boil, a Pig Roast, Whiskey Wednesdays, and S'mores and Whiskey Nights. The Candelas location at 18068 W. 92nd Lane closes on November 1, the day after Olde Town's. In their announcement, the owners said "life and business have taken us in new directions, increasingly out of state."
The lounge's events calendar lists music in the room through October 26.
Silver Vines followed a similar path. Owners Kristin and Jeff Chayer announced the closure on Facebook on June 29. In a statement to the Arvada Press, Kristin Chayer described what the winery had become:
"Silver Vines became something we never could have predicted. What started as a winery became a gathering place."
The Arvada location stays open through December. The Arvada Press reported a 15th Anniversary Party for Sunday, December 6, from 2 to 6 p.m. That date isn't on the winery's online event directory, which does list programming on December 4 and December 7. Check the directory for the party date before planning around it.
Neither business has announced what will replace it at 7415 or 7509 Grandview.
The replacement is being built by neighbors, a block over
The Arvada Press profile of My Book Cellar starts with the same gap these closures widen. Kim Beaumund and Kate Otto are best friends who both started their families in Olde Town. They saw a lack of third spaces in the historic district and decided to open one.
Their plan is a bookstore, café, bar and community space at 5715 Upham Street. Like the Bluegrass, it's a single room meant to work from morning tea to an evening glass of wine. Otto described a different feel for it, "in a quiet setting, that's not a bar." Readers could come alone with a cup of tea, bring a book club for wine, or meet other young parents.
They also planned the store around the other businesses on the block. My Book Cellar will specialize in new books so it doesn't overlap with Book Cranny, the nearby new-and-used bookstore, or the Olde Town branch of the Jeffco Public Library. The owners said they also plan to avoid gift items other Olde Town shops already carry.
The house has its own history
The building predates every business on this list. The City of Arvada's historic building survey records it as the Smith/Huston Residence, built in 1924. The survey traces several owners:
- Attorney Osmer E. Smith lived there in 1932.
- The Swadleys were there in 1934 and 1938.
- Ray and Flora Goedert were there in 1940.
- David R. and Marie Schneider Huston lived there from 1942 to 1952.
The survey places the house outside the existing historic district. It isn't individually eligible for the National Register, but the survey recommends including it if the district boundary expands.
That status shapes how the business will feel. Its owners call it a cellar, and it sits in a house beyond the edge of the historic district. It doesn't have a Grandview storefront.
Patience on the opening date
The timeline is still uncertain. In a story its business page lists as updated September 14, the Arvada Press reported an opening target of "sometime before the holidays." It also said the city had commented on the permits and the owners were waiting on their resubmittal. The My Book Cellar website now says "Coming Winter 2026 to Olde Town Arvada."
Until the doors open, the business is running as pop-ups. The owners have set up at Second Saturdays and area book fairs, and they planned biweekly story times at Mad Macks Brewery and Tutu School Arvada. The next event on their events page is a book-release event on Monday and Tuesday, October 26 and 27, at Method & Muse, 7513 Grandview Avenue. Readers who can't make it can pick up books at the future shop. Method & Muse is just a few addresses from Silver Vines, so the new business's first event and the winery's final weeks overlap on the same short stretch of Grandview.
The other moves point the same direction
Other recent changes have landed in the same places, a block or more off the main street.
TeeLee Floral and Events moved into 5613 Olde Wadsworth Blvd. Owner ScheLeese Goudy runs retail flowers and goods out of the shop alongside the event business.
303 Ramen reopened on September 11 at 8025 Sheridan Blvd., after a fire closed its former Olde Town location. Owner Natenapa Bunkrong describes the new spot as nearby.
The Arvada Urban Renewal Authority and the city are working with Xcel to bury overhead utility lines in the alley between Olde Wadsworth and Yukon, from Ralston Road to Grandview Avenue. AURA's project page expects completion this fall. The next project is the Yukon Streetscape, scheduled for 2026 to 2027 at an estimated $3.1 million. It proposes better sidewalks, lighting, planters, benches and intersection changes between Grandview and Ralston.
Grandview already has its sidewalks and storefronts. The city's current spending is aimed at making the blocks around it pleasant to walk, and those are the blocks where a bookstore in a 1924 house will depend on foot traffic.
Dates to plan around
From the last week of October into early January, the openings and closings in Olde Town fall on these dates:

- Friday, October 30, 5 to 7 p.m. Trick or Treat Street in Olde Town, with business trick-or-treating, a costume contest and new vehicle-based trunk-or-treating. A free haunted house at the Jaycees House is open from 4 to 8 p.m.
- Saturday, October 31. Last day at the Bluegrass on Grandview. The Candelas location follows on November 1.

For My Book Cellar, the date to watch is the opening at 5715 Upham Street, which the owners currently list as this winter.
